Police Arrest Intoxicated Person in Vehicle With 2 Minors

MEMPHIS, TN (MPD) — On April 19, 2022, at 4:28 pm, an agent with the ATF contacted members of the Mount Moriah Task Force and their lieutenant concerning a traffic situation. The ATF agent observed a Buick Enclave occupied by a female that was stopped a quarter of the way in the intersection at Cherry Road and Quince Road, blocking a lane of traffic. The agent pulled up to check on the driver and observed two small children in the backseat. The female had her head down, and the agent was concerned she was having a medical episode or was under the influence. The agent was able to make contact with the driver and had her roll the passenger side window down, and a strong odor of alcohol came from the interior of the vehicle. The agent asked the female to pull to the curb, and the female drove off, almost striking the agent’s parked vehicle. Concerned for the safety of the children, the agent followed the vehicle and observed her almost strike another car head-on. The vehicle stopped again in the middle of Park Avenue and then sped off when the ATF agent approached almost causing a crash again. At 703 South Goodlett Street, the agent was finally able to get the vehicle stopped and waited for Mount Moriah Task Force Officers to arrive and assist. Officers spoke with driver Tara Hunter and observed slurred speech, bloodshot-watery eyes, and the odor of intoxicants coming from her. Officers located two bottles of wine in the vehicle, one was open and half consumed. Tara Hunter, 30-years-old, was arrested and charged with two counts of DUI, Child Endangerment under 18, and Reckless Driving.Hunter’s 4 and 6-year-old children were released to family. El vehículo se detuvo nuevamente en medio de Park Avenue y luego aceleró cuando el agente de la ATF se acercó casi provocando un nuevo choque. En 703 South Goodlett Street, el agente finalmente pudo detener el vehículo y esperó a que los oficiales de la Fuerza de Tarea de Mount Moriah llegaran y ayudaran.
