Former MPD Officers Facing Murder Charges in Tyre Nichols’ Death in Court

MEMPHIS, TN (FOX 13 News) — Five former Memphis Police officers charged in the death of Tyre Nichols during a traffic stop will be in court today.
Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Emmitt Martin III and Justin Smith are scheduled to report to criminal court and separately, federal court.
Four of the men have pled not guilty to the charges.
The fifth former officer, Desmond Mills Jr., switched his plea to guilty of excessive force and obstruction of justice during a hearing in federal court on Nov. 2, and is expected to be in state court today.
The men face state criminal charges and federal charges. A civil lawsuit has been filed against the former officers by the family of Nichols.
