Biden, his wife receive dozens of children at White House on Halloween

Washington, Oct 31 (EFE).- Dozens of children, accompanied by their parents, received candy Monday from the hand of United States President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill, in the traditional Halloween celebration in Washington.

In front of a White House decorated for the occasion, with pumpkins and autumn bushes, the president greeted the children who passed through the South Lawn of his residence asking for the traditional “trick or treat” dressed as princes and princesses, characters from the saga of Star Wars, and teddy bears.

Biden, dressed in a blue coat and baseball cap alongside his wife, dressed as a butterfly with a purple wig and blue wings, handed out candy from a pair of brown baskets to the little guests, who greeted them on a rainy afternoon in the American capital.

The children were the children of firefighters, nurses, local police officers and members of the National Guard, who also came to accompany them.

Representatives from the Department of Education, the Department of Transportation and NASA, among other officials, also participated in the event, where a live band played the soundtrack of “Harry Potter” and the television series “Game of Thrones,” the Government reported in a statement.

Since 1958, under the Dwight Eisenhower Administration (1953-1961), US presidents have had a tradition of receiving families on Halloween afternoon, celebrated in the country on Oct. 31.

More than 73 million kids hit the streets to trick-or-treat across the US in 2020, the latest date for which data is available, according to the US Census Bureau. EFE
