Anderson, Moretti, Farhadi in race for Cannes’s top prize

Paris, Jun 3 (EFE).- Movies by Wes Anderson, Nanni Moretti, Asghar Farhadi and François Ozon are among the films selected to compete for Cannes’ top prize, the Palme d’Or.

Twenty-four of almost 2,000 films submitted have been rewarded with a spot in the 74th edition of the competition for the Palme d’Or for best film, one of cinema’s most iconic prizes.

Anderson’s The French Dispatch, Moretti’s Tre Piani, Farhadi’s A Hero and Ozon’s Tout S’est Bien Passé will be in competition at the July 6-17 movie showcase on the French Riviera.

Anderson’s movie was initially planned to screen at last year’s festival before it was cancelled amid the onslaught of the coronavirus pandemic.

Moretti won the festival’s top prize in 2001 for La Stanza del Figlio, while Farhadi took home the Best Screenplay award for The Salesman in 2016.

Ozon has been a regular at the film festival, where he was nominated for the Palme d’Or in 2017, 2013 and 2003.

This year’s jury will be headed by US Oscar-winning director Spike Lee.

– “The Worst Person in the World” by Joachim Trier, Norway

– “La Fracture” by Catherine Corsini, France

– “The Restless” by Joachim Lafosse, Belgium
