10-man Brazil beat Chile, face Peru in Copa America semifinal
Rio de Janeiro, Jul 2 (EFE).- Brazil, with a player less for almost the entire second half, overcame a resolute Chile 1-0 on Friday and entered the semifinals of the Copa America.
Lucas Paqueta struck immediately after half time to take the hosts ahead 1-0, but Gabriel Jesus was sent off just a couple of minutes later, putting the tournament favorites on the back foot.
Chile went on the offensive, but the home team managed to survive a late onslaught to stay alive in the competition.
Brazil will face Peru in the semifinal on Monday, after the latter beat Paraguay 4-3 on penalties.
In the last meeting between the two teams in the group stage, the Seleção had defeated Peru 4-0. EFE
