Gazprom says repair delays could cut Nord Stream gas flow by 40%

Moscow, Jun 14 (EFE).- Russian energy giant Gazprom on Tuesday said gas flows to Europe via the Nord Stream pipeline could drop 40% due to delays in technical repairs.

The company said in a statement that it could guarantee up to 100 million cubic liters of gas daily, down from the 167 million cubic liters that had been scheduled.

Gazprom said the reduction in flow, which comes amid wider fears of disruptions caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the Western sanctions slapped on Moscow in response, was due to a delay in repair work being carried out by German multinational Siemens.

The Nord Stream, the largest natural gas flow from Russia to the European Union, runs to Germany.

A second pipeline, Nord Stream 2, was halted over Russia’s invasion of its neighbor.

Siemens announced in mid-May its withdrawal from the Russian market in response to Moscow’s war in Ukraine and began to dismantle its operations and industrial activities. EFE
