Zelenskyy calls under-pressure Donbas situation ‘hell’

Update 1: Corrects Zelenskyy name throughout

Lviv, Ukraine, May 20 (EFE).- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described as “hell” the situation in the Donbas region, where Russian troops are trying to increase the pressure, and said Russian attacks have no military explanation.

“Ukrainian armed forces continue to advance in the liberation of the Kharkov region. But in Donbas the occupiers are trying to increase the pressure even more. It is hell, and it is not an exaggeration,” Zelenskyy said.

He referred to the “brutal and senseless shelling” of Severodonetsk, where “in just one day there were 12 deaths and dozens wounded.”

He stressed that the shelling of Ukrainian cities, air and missile strikes by the Russian army “are not just military actions during the war.”

He also alluded to the Russian attacks in the Chernigov region, in particular to the “terrible” attack in Desna, where the removal of debris continues and where many people have died, to the constant attacks in the Odessa region, in the cities of central Ukraine, and the “completely destroyed” Donbas.

“All this does not have and cannot have any military explanation for Russia,” he added.

Zelenskyy said it is “a deliberate and criminal attempt to kill as many Ukrainians as possible, to destroy as many homes, social facilities and businesses as possible.”

At the same time, he said he believes this will be called “genocide of the Ukrainian people” and that all invaders will definitely be brought to justice. EFE
