Rome, Oct 24 (EFE).- Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie arrived at the photocall for Marvel’s upcoming superhero movie, Eternals, at close the of the 2021 Rome Film Festival on Sunday.

Eternals, the 26th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is directed by Chinese filmmaker Chloé Zhao and tells the story of a diverse group superheroes who come out of hiding to fight evil “Deviants”  to keep humans safe.

“When I first put on the outfit I remember standing and thinking ‘oh my god’ I’m doing this, but you know you don’t feel completely comfortable and you find it a bit silly and a bit fun,” Jolie said at a press conference.

“And I went out and I saw everybody else, and I got really emotional because I hadn’t seen that family before. I remember saying to some of them how do you feel in your outfits, I remember Kumail (Nanjiani) saying: ‘how do I feel? I’ve never seen a Pakistani superhero before, I feel great this morning’.”

“So that was my strongest memory.”

The movie, set post-Avengers: Endgame (2019) where the characters kill the villain Thanos and bring back half of the world’s population after the latter wipes them away with his gauntlet, sees the “Deviants” emerge to threaten the human race again but superheroes who have been living secretly for thousands of years unite to fight them off.

Set for release in November, the film features superheroes coming from a diversity of cultures; two Asian heroes played by Britain’s Gemma Chan and Korea’s Don Lee, a Pakistani by Kumail Nanjiani, a Hispanic character portrayed by Salma Hayek, and two Black heroes by Lauren Ridloff and Brian Tyree Henry.

For the first time, Marvel has chosen to make one of its characters a gay, who is happily married with a child, and another communicating through sign language.

Zhao explained that when she joined the project there was already a brilliant Marvel script but her intention was to give the heroes that special touch.
