Auto Theft Leads Investigators to Memphis Chop Shop
MEMPHIS, TN (LPL/FOX 13) — Un robo de auto llevó a los investigadores a taller “deshuesadero” en Old Hwy 78.
Comenzó el viernes, 28 de septiembre, cuando la policía respondió a un robo de autos en el restaurante Chili’s Restaurant cerca de Wolfchase Bartlett.
Un hombre les dijo a los oficiales que su Chevy Trailblazer 2007 plateado fue robado mientras estaba dentro del restaurante. El vehículo tenía un valor de $4.550.
Al día siguiente, el propietario del vehículo pudo rastrear su camioneta a través de GPS a la dirección de 5700 de Old Hwy 78.
Cuando la policía llegó a la escena, pudieron encontrar el vehículo de la víctima en el estacionamiento.
Los investigadores también encontraron varios vehículos, motores cubiertos, transmisiones, remolques y otras partes de vehículos dispersos por los terrenos de la ubicación.
El martes 2 de octubre, los oficiales regresaron a 5700 de Old Hwy 78. También se les otorgó un consentimiento verbal y por escrito para verificar la propiedad.
La policía encontró varios vehículos a los que se les quitaron las transmisiones y motores en el suelo. Varios vehículos más fueron encontrados despojados de su propiedad.
Un Buick Enclave blanco del 2009, un Chevy Silverado 1500 plateado del 2007 y un Chevy Silverado 1500 rojo del 1998 fueron encontrados en la escena. Cuando la policía revisó los números VIN en cada vehículo, todos habían sido reportados como robados.
Kelsey Jones fue arrestado y llevado a la estación de policía en Ridgeway para una mayor investigación.
Jones le dijo a MPD que ordenó que le trajeran los vehículos para poder desarmarlos en su taller. Fue formalmente acusado y encerrado en el 201 Poplar.

MEMPHIS, TN (FOX 13) — An auto theft led investigators to a chop shop on Old Hwy 78.
It started Friday, September 28, when police responded to an auto theft from the Chili’s Restaurant near Wolfchase in Bartlett.
A man told officers that his silver 2007 Chevy trailblazer was stolen while he was inside the restaurant. The vehicle had a NADA valued at $4,550.
The next day, the vehicle owner was able to track his truck via GPS to an address in the 5700 block of Old Hwy 78.
When police made the scene, they were able to find the victim’s vehicle in the parking lot.
Investigators also found several vehicles, covered engines, transmissions, trailers and other vehicle parts scattered throughout the grounds of the location.
Tuesday, October 2, officers returned to the 5700 block of Old Hwy 78. They were also given verbal and written consent to check the property.
Police found several vehicles that had transmissions and motors removed and on the ground. Several more vehicle were found stripped of their property.
A white 2009 Buick Enclave, a silver 2007 Chevy Silverado 1500, and a red 1998 Chevy Silverado 1500 were found on the scene. When police ran the VIN numbers on each vehicle, they were all reported stolen.
Kelsey Jones was placed under arrest and taken to the Ridgeway station for further investigation.
Jones told MPD he ordered that the vehicles were brought to him so they could be dismembered for parts in his chop shop. He was formally charged and taken 201 Poplar.
