ARLINGTON, TN (Commercial Appeal) — Arlington High School was heavily monitored by authorities on Wednesday after a shooting threat. There were up to 10 officers in the building and additional deputies patrolling throughout the day.
Additional threats were discovered on Yolo and Snapchat on Tuesday night where users posted an anonymous “kill list.” The purpose was to “cause a frenzy and fuel the speculation,” Superintendent Tammy Mason said in a message posted on the district’s website.
The initial shooting threat written on a bathroom wall was discovered Aug. 23. The note indicated Sept. 4 as the date the shooting would take place, according to Mason. Arlington Community Schools, in conjunction with Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, has ruled the threat not credible, Mason’s message said.
Since the initial discovery, the sheriff’s office has been investigating the incident. They’ve been interviewing students, reviewing surveillance footage, and conducting a handwriting analysis. A lieutenant, a sergeant and a detective were at the school Wednesday investigating the latest anonymous posts.
