Memphis Police Chief’s Handgun Stolen During Vehicle Burglary

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) — A handgun belonging to the Memphis police chief was stolen during a vehicle burglary over the weekend.
The incident happened Saturday afternoon while the vehicle was parked outside of Ferguson Bath, Kitchen, and Lighting Gallery on Macon Station Road off Germantown Parkway. Officers responded to the report around 2:50 p.m.
According to the incident report, Chief Cerelyn “C.J.” Davis was a passenger in her husband’s vehicle — a 2018 Porsche Panamera.
Terry Davis told officers he and Chief Davis went inside the business and returned about 40 minutes later to find the passenger-side window broken and several items stolen.
Police say a backpack containing cigars, computer connectors and prescription medication was stolen as well as Davis’ handgun, which was in a locked removeable lockbox under the car seat. The handgun was Davis’ secondary duty weapon.
The backpack was found at another location, but the handgun has not yet been recovered.
Investigators took fingerprints from the vehicle and broken window.
