MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) — Tennessee health officials reported 217 new cases of coronavirus and 1 new death Sunday.
According to the Tennessee Department of Health, there are now 14,985 confirmed cases and 243 total deaths — up from 14,768 cases and 242 deaths reported Saturday.
More than 7,500 people have recovered from the virus across Tennessee and over 1,300 hospitalizations have been reported. TDH reports more than 261,000 tests have been administered.
TDH reports 3,260 cases and 68 deaths in Shelby County — up from 3,230 cases and 67 deaths announced by the Shelby County Health Department earlier Sunday.
So far, 1,897 people in Shelby County have recovered from the virus — about 58 percent of the county’s positive cases.
SCHD reports the highest percentage of Shelby County’s coronavirus cases — 19.1 percent — is among people 25 to 34. White residents make up 22 percent of the state’s cases while African Americans account for 68 percent.
There are confirmed out breaks at more than a dozen local facilities where nearly 250 residents and staff have tested positive.
The largest outbreak is at the Highlands of Memphis Health and Rehabilitation Center where 74 residents and staff members have tested positive and four people have died.
