St. Jude to Build $412 Million Advanced Research Center
MEMPHIS, TN (LPL/WMC) — El St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital se está expandiendo.
El hospital anunció el lunes, 19 de febrero, sus planes de construir un centro de investigación avanzada de $412 millones y de 625 mil pies cuadrados.
El St. Jude espera que el nuevo centro atraiga a científicos de todo el mundo y ayude a curar enfermedades infantiles.
“El centro de investigación avanzada reunirá una poderosa combinación de talento y tecnología en un espacio diseñado para impulsar el descubrimiento”, dijo el Dr. James R. Downing, presidente y director ejecutivo del St. Jude. “Estamos creando un entorno en el que científicos y médicos tendrán acceso inmediato a recursos y oportunidades de vanguardia para buscar avances con la esperanza de acelerar el progreso en el tratamiento y la curación de enfermedades pediátricas catastróficas”.
En colaboración con The Crump Firm y Jacobs Engineering, la construcción comenzará esta primavera y se espera que esté terminada en el año 2021.
El nuevo centro es parte de un proyecto de expansión de $1 mil millones, hecho posible por partidarios y donantes del St.Jude.

The hospital announced Monday, February 19, its plans to build a 625,000 square-foot, $412 million advanced research center.
St. Jude hopes that the new center will attract scientists from around the world and help cure childhood illnesses.
“The advanced research center will bring together a powerful combination of talent and technology in a space designed to propel discovery,” said James R. Downing, M.D., St. Jude president and chief executive officer. “We are creating an environment where scientists and clinicians will have ready access to leading-edge resources and opportunities to pursue breakthroughs in hopes of accelerating progress in treating and curing catastrophic pediatric diseases.”
In collaboration with The Crump Firm and Jacobs Engineering, construction will begin this spring and is expected to be completed in 2021.
The new center is a part of a $1 billion expansion project made possible by supporters and donors of St.Jude.
“At St. Jude, we strive for the day when no child dies in the dawn of life. The investment in the advanced research center ensures that our pioneering work will continue far in the future,” Downing said.
