WMC ACTION NEWS 5 PARTNERS WITH SCS ON HEADSETS FOR LEARNING
WMC ACTION NEWS 5 SE ASOCIA CON SCS EN CAMPAÑA DE AURICULARES PARA EL APRENDIZAJE VIRTUAL
MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) — WMC Action News 5 has partnered with Shelby County Schools on Headsets for Learning, a fundraising drive to supply each student in the Shelby County School System with a headset to aid with virtual learning.
“In this new era of online education, headsets are a vital tool for every student,” said WMC Action News 5 Vice President and General Manager Jonathan Mitchell. “Headsets help students to focus on their lessons and hear instructions from their teachers. In a home with more than one child attending different classes, they aren’t just important, they are imperative.”
There are approximately 95,000 students in the Shelby County School System, the largest school district in the state of Tennessee. $10 can purchase one headset.
“Many families cannot afford to purchase these headsets,” said WMC Action News 5 News Director Greg Phillips. “The education of our children is something we, as a station, feel very strongly about. The need is great. Every time we see a need and share that need with our viewers, they always come through.”
The first day of virtual classes for SCS is Monday, August 31. On that day, WMC Action News 5 will host a day-long “Headsets for Learning” donation drive. Stories and interviews will emphasize the importance, and need, of headsets for every student.
“We are asking anyone who has the means to consider donating to this fund,” said Mitchell. “Just $10 can make a difference for a student and set them up for success.”
